El lighter (also called lighter of flint, lighter y yesquero) is a fire-lighting tool. It is created with a flint and an iron ingot in this way:

Iron Ingot + Flint |
The lighter, when right-clicking, ignites as if it were a block. Fire can be lit only on solid blocks and opaque blocks, or on the sides of flammable blocks. By lighting a fire on stone from the underworld, it will never go out, even if it rains.
A lighter has limited use, but it is not a tool for breaking blocks and therefore does not lose durability when used to hit things. If you try to start in the wrong place, it still counts as one use, damaging yourself. It is not stackable or renewable.
Utilization
The lighter ignites air that behaves like any other bulb. Particular ways this can be useful are:
- Create portals.
- Ignite creatures on fire. In this way they are damaged more slowly, being less effective than using a sword. Also, the block under the creature should be turned on instead of the creature itself, making it a complicated form of attack. This was the only way to damage a creature in the multiplayer Alpha version.
- If flammable blocks (like wood) bother you, you can get rid of them by burning them.
- Removal of leaves or trees. However, this can accidentally cause a forest fire.
- Temporary lighting until the fire is out, or permanent lighting in the Nether (since the netherrack burns indefinitely).
- When a pig is killed by fire, he throws cooked cutlet, carrying a lighter would save the player a lot of coal. This also works with cows, chickens, sheep, and rabbits.
- The lighter can be used to light a TNT.
Curiosities
- In early versions of the Indev, the guy started with a lighter in inventory. Peos could also be found as loot dropped by creatures.
- At the beginning of the survival multiplayer version, the ovens were not working. There was a peo that allowed the lighter to light peos
