Generation

Cold Underwater Ruins spawn in normal, cold, and frozen ocean biomes, as well as their deep variants. They are composed of sandstone and / or stone materials.

The warm underwater ruins are generated in warm, warm and deep biomes of the warm ocean, and are composed of sandstone and / or stone materials.

Although most underwater ruins spawn underwater, they sometimes spawn on land.

Structure

All but two of the structures will contain a chest with loot inside. The chest can be a small or a large chest depending on the size and type of the underwater ruin structure and it can be buried by some type of material such as gravel and sand.

The cold underwater ruins are mainly composed of stone and gravel bricks, and will also contain prismarine, sand, magma blocks, sea lanterns, polished granite, glazed terracotta, bricks, wood, rock, mossy stone bricks, stairs of stone bricks, obsidian, and / or a loot chest. The warm underwater ruins are primarily made up of sand and sandstone, and will also contain polished granite, polished diorite, sea lanterns, magma blocks, gravel, terra cotta, sandstone stairs, and / or a loot chest.

The shape and size of underwater ruins vary widely, and are often spawned together in groups to create ruined villages.

You can use structure blocks to manually load the pieces of the ruins from the / data / structures / underwater_ruin folder in minecraft.jar. To do this, set a structure block to load mode, enter underwater_ruin / structure_name, and hit LOAD.

Ruins are naturally generated with their reduced structure integrity

February 15, 2018			The Minecraft Instagram channel posted a video showing the ocean ruins that were going to be added in the Aquatic Update.

Curiosities

In the Bedrock Edition, the Loot Chest in the Ocean Ruins will generate waterlogging in addition to having a block of water on it. This can be seen in the image on the right. It is unknown whether the water is intentionally part of the ruin structure. [1]
- However, in the Java edition, this is not the case, according to the second image.
- The ocean ruin of the type big_ruin1_brick (2-story tower with arches) is very similar to an Underwater Stone Raider Outpost
