    Leaves

Leaves The content of this article needs to be translated.  The present text is in another language and makes it difficult for readers to understand. You can help by translating it.

HR leaves They are translucent blocks that are generated in trees whose textures vary in color depending on the biome in which they are found.

    Summary

    Obtaining

    Leaves Leaves

Sheets in fast and detailed graphics.

Leaves are naturally generated on various types of trees across the surface. There are also other types of sheet generation:

    • Dark oak leaves also appear in forest mansions.
    • They can be generated as part of sprout-grown trees. This is also the only way to get azalea leaves and flowered azalea leaves.

To break the block you can use a hoe, sword or scissors. Hoes are the fastest blade breaking tool by default, but you can only get blades with scissors or Enchanted Tools with Silk Touch. Swords are also good for breaking blades faster, but not as fast as hoes. The following table shows the break times.

    Block Leaves
    Hardness 0.2
    Tool
    Break time [note 1]
    Default 0.3
    Madera 0.15
    Stone 0.1
    Iron 0.05
    Diamond 0.05
    Netherita 0.05
    Gold 0.05
    Scissors
    Sword

    Easier

The leaves generated in trees spontaneously disappear (that is, they disappear) when they receive a block tick if they are not connected to any trunk, either directly or connected to other leaves, as long as they are within a maximum distance of 6 blocks from the trunk. However, the sheets placed by a player never disappear, this because the NBT persistent tag acquires the value persistent = true, unlike the naturally generated sheets whose value is persistent = false.

They are always transparent to light, but you cannot see through them when the graphics type is "Fast"; the transparent parts then are black‌ [JE only] / dark green‌ [BE only]. They spread the light from the sky, causing the shadows they cast under the trees.

They are destroyed to be pushed by pistons. They will not stick to sticky pistons, slime blocks or honey blocks.

They have a 30% chance of increasing a composter's compost level by 1.

Flowering azalea leaves work like a flower when interacting with bees, since they can pollinate with the block and can use it as food. Oak and birch trees that grow from buds that are 2 blocks away from a blooming azalea leaf block have a 5% chance of growing with a hive that can contain 1-3 bees in it.

    Rewards

Blades that naturally disappear or are destroyed without the use of scissors or an enchanted Silk Touch tool follow a reward table when broken:

Reward Source block Break without Fortune (or natural decay) Break with Fortuna I Break with Fortuna II Break with Fortuna III
    Jungle outbreak Jungle leaves only 2.5% (1⁄40) 2.78% (1⁄36) 3.125% (1⁄32) 4.17% (1⁄24)
Azalea, flowered azalea or other buds The rest of the leaves (each leaf gives a specific bud) 5% (1⁄20) 6.25% (1⁄16) 8.33% (1⁄12) 10% (1⁄10)
    1-2 sticks Any of the Leaves 2% (1⁄50) 2.22% (1⁄45) 2.5% (1⁄40) 3.33% (1⁄30)
    Apples Oak leaves and dark oak 0.5% (1⁄200) 0.556% (1⁄180) 0.625% (1⁄160) 0.833% (1⁄120)

    Redstone

Leaves This feature is exclusive to Java Edition.

The state of the sheets (including those placed by a player), changes after 1 game tick (half redstone tick) when the distance to the log or log block changes, up to 6 blocks away. Observers looking away from the blades detect this change and transmit a redstone signal at the same game tick, making them useful for transmitting the redstone signal.

Leaves This section needs updating  Please update this section to reflect recent updates or new information available.
Reason: You need renderings and information on the rest of the biomes after 1.12

In Java Edition, the sheets have the following fixed colors:

    • In inventory, oak, jungle, acacia, and dark oak leaves are colored
       #48B518.
    • Fir leaves are colored
       # 619961 and are not affected by the biome or inventory color.
    • Birch leaves are colored
       # 80a755 and are not affected by the biome or inventory color.

In addition, they acquire other colors depending on the biome in which they are. These values are generated by the biome staining algorithm. They follow a table of colors depending on the biome and color:

    Bedrock Edition

In Bedrock Edition, the leaves will appear covered with snow during snowfall, however, this appearance is unique to the snowy tundra, frozen river, snowy beach, snowy taiga biomes and their variants. The leaves are covered in snow when detailed graphics are on. Although mountain biomes generate snow at high altitudes it does not convert leaves covered with snow during snowfall, the same is true for frozen oceans and deep frozen oceans.

    Metadata

In Bedrock Edition, Sheets use the following data values: "Persistent" means that the sheets will disappear. "Check for decay" means that the sheets are not persistent, they will check if they will disappear the next time there is a block update. If there is no trunk within 4 blocks, the leaves will disappear. The disappearance check is normally triggered when there is a trunk block, a leaf block, or when there is a broken leaf2 block within 4 blocks of it. Values 12 to 15 can be used, but they cause identical behavior to values 8 to 11.

    Trivia

    • Occasionally, leaves grow through other blocks, acting as though they are still connected to the tree. They may also completely replace blocks they try to grow into.
    • Leaves do not prevent chests from being opened.
    • Some trees seem to occasionally drop apples or saplings without being destroyed due to creation of leaf blocks not supported by logs.
    • The frost texture en Bedrock Edition is not an instant transition. Instead, the leaves slowly shift from their original color to the frosty one.
    • While wearing a cape, putting leaves on your head will turn your cape green.
